Midtown Assistance Center operates with a qualified staff and a core of trained community volunteers.
Each individual is screened over the telephone for eligibility by a MAC staff member and advised on the specific types of assistance the Midtown Assistance Center provides. After determining their needs, MAC staff members schedule them an appointment, typically within 24 hours, to come in with documentation verification of their situation and loss of income.
MAC schedules approximately 30 appointments each day and has weekly volunteers who meet with people seeking assistance. Each appointment lasts around 30 minutes, with volunteers collecting documentation for staff to review and verify so that clients can receive assistance on the spot. By creating quick turnover between appointment time and services provided, MAC makes it possible for clients to avoid additional fees from their landlord and utility companies.
Midtown Assistance Center follows up on all households we assist with rent and utilities. We have found that 90% of people assisted with rent are still housed six months later and 84% of households still have electricity connected.
