A Note from Our Executive Director about COVID-19

A Note from Our Executive Director about COVID-19

Dear Friends,

If you are reading this message, you are an important part of our Midtown Assistance Center family. We are grateful for your continued support during this evolving pandemic. Many of you have already reached out to see how you can support MAC and our clients. We want to give you an update and offer some ways you can continue to support our community.

March 18th will be our last day in the office until March 30th. We will be working remotely from home. While our office is closed, MAC’s financial assistance will not be closed. We will continue to screen clients remotely using email to provide rent and utility assistance. Fortunately, Georgia Power Company, Georgia Natural Gas and City of Atlanta Water have suspended disconnections for 60 days. The Eviction court has canceled hearings for 30 days. Atlanta Public Schools is providing breakfast/ lunch pickups for families at multiple sites. This news provides us relief knowing that most clients will remain housed with electricity and water connected.

Our Board of Directors will continue to assess the situation. It is difficult to predict what will happen in the coming weeks. For now, our message is that the MAC team is working remotely to provide financial assistance in our current service area (zip codes 30303, 30308, 30309, 30312, 30313, 30314, 30315, 30310, 30318 and 30363). Anyone in need of financial assistance should visit our website midtownassistancectr.org for information and requirements for assistance. Direct requests can be made by completing this form.

On March 3rd, MAC celebrated its 34th birthday. During that time, we have weathered many storms. MAC has provided assistance in the aftermath of 911, Katrina evacuee resettlement, and the economic crisis of 2008. From our home at Atlanta First United Methodist Church, we have provided homeless and hunger prevention to families during incredibly challenging times. Our team will continue to work throughout this period of social distancing to remain as connected as possible to our neighbors in need who may feel isolated and concerned.

Ways to Help

  • Financial donations are much needed and greatly appreciated. Gifts can be made electronically at our donation page.
  • Keep up to date on our Facebook and Instagram, and share posts with your friends.
  • Once we re-open, we anticipate the need will be great. It would be a huge help to us to get additional volunteers/donations/resources when that time arises.

We will continue to communicate our plans. We ask that you keep us and those we serve in your prayers. Please know you all are in ours.

A Lifetime of Thanks,

Jenny and the MAC team
