Metro Atlanta grocery shoppers are stocking up on essentials ahead of an approaching winter storm, as one of the region’s largest grocery chains says it is preparing stores for increased demand.
Meanwhile, food assistance organizations in the metro Atlanta area warn the storm could worsen hardships for people already struggling.
The Midtown Assistance Center, which provides food and rent support to families and individuals in metro Atlanta, said it typically sees a spike in calls and concerns ahead of, and after, major storms.
Jenny Jobson, executive director of the Midtown Assistance Center, said the possibility of icy and impassable roads raises serious concerns for those who already rely on food pantries.
