In summer of 2016, Lauren found herself in a detrimental situation that required her to seek a helping hand- and fast. As someone who had never utilized MAC’s assistance before, Lauren called MAC’s office in need of help paying her rent. Her car had broken down and required a repair in order for her to get to work. Instead of being able to pay her monthly rent, she was put behind on her payment by a week, which caused her to incur late fees and a warrant fee.

With a daughter in school and working long hours at a hospital, Lauren was looking to MAC to get her back on track. [Without MAC] I would have lost my apartment. MAC opened up doors for me, and gave me a window of opportunity,” Lauren said. MAC was able to pay her rent and her electricity bill, which was especially needed in the hot month of August. “Ever since you all helped, things have been going fine for me,” Lauren said when we checked in a few months after assistance. She is still working at the hospital and her daughter is doing well in school.

Situations similar to the one Lauren faced are not unlikely assistance calls to MAC. Everyone has curveballs that life throws at them, but MAC is there to ensure those who have a tougher time dealing with those experiences have a safety net. MAC was able to prevent eviction during this client’s time of emergency, allowing Lauren and her daughter to focus on their day to day lives instead of worrying about becoming homeless or going without electricity.
