MAC Volunteer Spotlight: Breanna Harris
Breanna Harris is a junior at Georgia State University majoring in Sociology with a concentration in Race and Urban Studies, and minoring in English. She came to MAC last summer through GSU’s career center. “The thing that ultimately caught my attention about MAC was the wide range of assistance options that are offered to clients. I liked the fact that not only does MAC assist individuals and families with groceries, but they also assist with clothing, rent, utilities, and many other necessities.”
Breanna has been a faithful part of the MAC team, serving in our food pantry every Friday morning. She packs grocery orders for clients, ensuring each household receives a suitable amount of food. She also maintains the general upkeep of the pantry, keeping shelves cleaned and organized, sorting donations and getting rid of expired or damaged food.
“During my time at MAC, I have learned that any act of kindness, no matter how big or small, can have a significant impact on someone,” Breanna answers when asked what she has learned during her service at Midtown Assistance Center. “Since my primary duties are in the food pantry, I rarely have face-to-face contact with many of the clients that are serviced by MAC. However, over time I have learned that my ‘behind-the-scenes’ duties of providing groceries for families is something of great importance; the grocery assistance provided by MAC alleviates the burden for individuals and families who may have otherwise worried about where their next meal would come from.”
We are so grateful for the valuable service Breanna provides to our clients. Each day, we can see up to 30 clients, and we could not do it without the compassion and hard work from volunteers like her. “Knowing that I play a part in providing food for individuals and families each week is a wonderful feeling, which is why I am wholeheartedly grateful to be a part of MAC.”
