Meet Jae: Our Summer Service Learning Intern
My name is Jae Won Kim (Daniel), and I am currently working as an intern for the Atlanta Community Food Bank, Midtown Assistance Center, and NETWorks. I am a rising sophomore in University of Notre Dame studying Neuroscience and Behavior for Pre Med, and I got to know this internship from a program called the Summer Service Learning Program from our school.
For a brief introduction of myself, I was born in South Korea and immigrated to the United States when I was four years old. I initially lived in California for ten years and had the chance to move back to South Korea for another two years. Then, I moved back to Georgia, and I have been living here since then. Though I am not very active, some of my hobbies include tennis, golf, and soccer. Other activities I love to do are reading, taking road trips, and watching movies. I got involved with this internship because, since high school, I have always had a desire or passion to return service to my community. Even though I had volunteered for patients, elders in nursing homes, and for children with disabilities all throughout high school, I have never been involved in service for poverty. Through this internship, I hope I would be able to provide as much help as I can and learn more about poverty. I desire to “unlearn” the misconceptions I have about poverty, and I hope to not only learn more about the people who come to receive help but also learn more about myself and develop as an individual through this internship.
