October Volunteer of the Month: Edward
Edward has been a volunteer in MAC‘s food pantry for five years. He comes in every week to weigh and sort donations from food drives, shopping trips and the Atlanta Community Food Bank. He always looks forward to volunteering at MAC, and on the rare occasions when there is not food to be sorted, Edward will happily work in the clothing closet or help with another special project. With a bright smile and friendly personality, he is always eager to meet and work with new volunteers, interns and Jesuit Volunteers. Recently, Edwards started coming in a second day each week to fill grocery orders for clients during assistance. He talks to clients to ensure they get food they need and helps clients carry food out to their car.
As a native of Athens, Georgia, Edward is a graduate of UGA. He studied mathematics and physics, topics he still studies in his free time. Edward first learned about MAC when he contacted the United Way about volunteer opportunities. He met with Rebecca, the former volunteer coordinator, and enjoyed MAC right away. “I like being in a place where everyone cares about me,” he reflects. With his commitment and generous spirit, it’s obvious he cares about MAC, too!
