October Volunteer of the Month: John

October Volunteer of the Month: John

If you come to Midtown Assistance Center looking for an outfit for a job interview, you might have the privilege of working with John, one of our faithful volunteers. John has been volunteering in MAC’s working men’s clothing closet since 2008. He was introduced to the organization through Atlanta First United Methodist Church, where he is a member.

For the past eleven years, John has been a valuable asset to the team. He greets every client with a smile and is always eager to find them the perfect outfit. “I love helping my clients. They are so grateful,” John recalls. “I remember a gentlemen needing a suit for a job interview. I found one that fit  him perfectly and showed him how to tie a tie. He came back and told me he got the job. I was as happy as he was.” When a client meets with John, they know they have someone in their corner rooting for them.

In addition to serving clients, he works to ensure the clothing closet organized, sorting donations and keeping the racks tidy so its easy for clients to find the perfect item. When the closet runs low on much-requested hygiene items, John will bring armloads of donations he purchased for clients. He works to ensure clients have what they need to nail their interview or make a great impression their first day on the job.

When he is not volunteering at MAC, John spends his free time making upgrades on his house. He also enjoys listening to music and watching movies.
