A Message of Support

To the Black community in Atlanta and beyond, the Midtown Assistance Center stands with you. We stand with you over the tremendous and unjust loss of Black lives, and more importantly, the centuries of systemic racism in our country. We see you. We hear you. Our hearts break with yours. We memorize their names – George, Breonna, Ahmaud, and so many others. We recognize that on any day, you, your child, your friend or your neighbor could be victimized simply because of the color of your skin. 

Every day as we serve our clients at MAC, we witness the many obstacles you are forced to overcome due to systematized racial injustice. We see how hard you work to keep a roof over your head and food on your table. We recognize the importance of the work you do and how it benefits our community. We see the worry on your face during job loss and medical crises. We witness how the lack of affordable housing pushes many of you further from the center of our city. We know that some of you live in neighborhoods with significantly increased mortality rates. We visit the schools that your children attend and see the barriers that they face to bridge the racial divide in education. Racial injustice has been with you every hour of every day since you were born. We see you. We hear you. 

Serving in the hometown of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for 34 years, we are guided by his wisdom and example. “It is not possible to be in favor of justice for some people and not be in favor of justice for all people.” We promise to continue to hear your voices and share your stories. Your stories matter. Your lives matter. Black Lives Matter.
